Thread: packing multiple bytes into a single word?

  1. #1

Default packing multiple bytes into a single word?

What's the best way to combine multiple bytes into a common word? I've got a 10 bit signal I'm reading, 1 complete byte plus the last 2 bits of the preceding byte, and need to capture the decimal value of those 10 sequential bits. I'm assuming packing the two bytes into an otherwise empty word would be best, are there other options? Thanks.

That would work fine. You can multiply one byte by 256 and then add the other to the word.
